Welcome to the Jersey City Survey
Why "Survey"? This site is under construction, but survey is what best describes the intention of the editors of what hopes to be an alternative Jersey City newspaper with coverage of politics, city government, county and state government, and occasionally editorial about national politics. But much more is in the offering. Jersey City has treasures which are not properly publicized, and a spirit and unique identity that needs to be cherished and preserved. The city is at a crossroads, as is the country. Economic growth is contracting, and we are coming out of a period where Jersey City exemplified the national trend by building a huge amount of new office space and housing. While the editor of this site is of course in favor of economic development, this moment of pause and contraction should be one of reassessment of where the city is headed, whether or not large development can really coexist with the value of the city which has been here for centuries, and how to preserve so much architecture, culture, and all the excellent aspects of this city. Therefore, we will start out with blogs, identify alternative views, try to come up with new angles on the current news and the overall success or failure of government, and hope to get fresh voices regarding our city's future. In addition, expect forums dedicated to dealing with city government, reporting crime or problems in specific neighborhoods, and general up to date information modified by user input. User input will be crucial to help others effectively create progress and work with the institutions and organs of city and county government--both for those new to Jersey City and those who have called this city home for generations. Comments will be crucial. Anonymous comments will be most welcome, but moderated. There should be no worries or suspicion that user comments will ever be traced to any individual. However, the editor reserves the right to not publish violent or defamatory comments. And profanity will be edited, given the necessity of meeting community standards. And on the lighter and perhaps even more crucial side, this site will showcase arts, culture, restaurants, artists, entertainers, and all things great happening right here. And pictures and visual elements are going to be a big part of what we offer, keeping in touch with the day to day life of the city, all of it, from Hackensack to Hudson. This site will also have advertising, but will try to never have intrusive ads which stand in the way of access of ease of use of the site. So stay tuned, and welcome. --The Editor
